"You can never go home again. . .” Lu Conners wonders why she would want to.

Home to her conjured up memories of a poverty stricken childhood on a dirt-farm in Florida, the death of her mother, an embittered and closed-off father, and the cutting slights of being called nigger and pickaninny. Was it any wonder that when she won a scholarship for college in the north she never looked back?

Now with teenagers herself, a successful career, and a business-owner husband, the last thing she wants to do is attend to her newly deceased father’s affairs. Neither is she anxious to deal with her hostile brother or face those figures from her childhood who could feel nothing but betrayal after her long absence.

The journey home unexpectedly becomes more than a facing of bad memories. To her surprise she finds it to be a journey of renewal as secrets are revealed, sacrifices are discovered, and a newfound pride in her family and roots is instilled to be treasured and passed down to the next generation.

Jane Gill was born in Saratoga Springs, NY, but has lived and worked in Florida for most of her adult life. While she fondly recalls the snowy days of her youth, she has long felt the South was “home”. She is fond of saying she had given the stork directions to be born in “Sarasota” but he misread the map and dropped her in “Saratoga”.

Jane serves on the Advisory Boards for the State College of Florida and Sarasota County Technical Institute. She is also active as a Mote Marine Sea Turtle Volunteer, patrolling the beach at dawn to record the activities of sea turtles that nest on Florida beaches. She raised two daughters, both college graduates, and attended college herself only after her children left home.  Jane proudly received her National Association of Legal Assistants certification when she was 50.

Jane began writing only a few short years ago.  She has twice received recognition for her contributions to Doorways Memoirs magazine.  She has also published in The Bridge magazine.  When she is not doting on her grandchild, she enjoys exploring off-beat Florida places and traveling with friends.

The mystery of God can sometimes be found in a simple conversation with a stranger…

In the sleepy little town of Gadara, Florida, Alice Waterson arrives home from college, pregnant and dumped by her boyfriend. Her mother Karen Waterson is reeling from the news that her ex-husband is expecting a baby with his new wife and that his financial woes will mean Karen selling her and Alice’s home. Across town, A.J. Handley is staving off loneliness and wondering if the chest pains he’s been having are serious. Heading for Miami, a young man struggles with his choice of rejecting the woman he loves and the baby she carries. And at the Gadara Twin Oaks B&B, innkeeper Sarah Jane is not quite sure what to make of the stranger who arrives after hitch-hiking his way into town.

Sunny Serafino weaves a haunting tale of mystery, faith and the intertwining of lives as each of her characters faces their own problems and dilemmas, seeking answers from God. They find that none of the answers come immediately or easily, but that the final answer may rest in the actions of another, hidden for two generations. A secret so buried that only Divine Intervention could possibly reveal it.
